ANC May General Membership Meeting–Wednesday May 24, 2017

Dear Members Representatives,
The ANC meeting for May will be this coming Wednesday, May 24 from 7- 9 PM at 721 Barton Springs Road. Meet and Greet is from 6:30-7:00 PM. The upcoming meeting of the Austin Neighborhoods Council will be an exciting one!

Here is the agenda. With the State Legislature in session, legislation concerning Sanctuary Cities has been in the hot seat. We have several speakers addressing this “controversial”  Sanctuary City issue- on deck is Council Member Greg Casarwith Mayor Adler to present the City side of this issue. Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez will address us, as well. On a related topic of “forgotten citizens”, we have scheduled UT Professor Ricardo Ainslie who has been working on a new documentary about veterans and their issues. On down the road, Annick Beaudet from the City’s Transportation Department will continue the discussion about Street Impact fees with a peak at the maps which should impact our neighborhoods. For the CodeNEXT placeholder, Karen McGraw from the Planning Commission will give us a well informed perspective on CodeNEXT. The Neighborhood Story feature about “Traffic”- a topic we all know intimately, will be Linda Bailey from the western neighborhood of Glenlake. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night!

ANC will also be hosting a mapping workshop on Thursday, May 25, at 721 Barton Springs Road from 7- 9 PM. Please plan to attend this workshop.

Best,

ANC Agenda 042617

The Austin Neighborhoods Council (ANC) is Austin’s only comprehensive representative of the City’s neighborhood associations. More than 40 years old, ANC consists of nearly 100 member neighborhood associations representing hundreds of thousands individual residents all across Austin.

Dear ANC Member Representatives,

It is that time again for another Austin Neighborhoods Council General Membership Meeting, Wednesday, April 26 7- 8:50 PM, 721 Barton Springs Road; Meet and Greet at 6:30 PM. Of course, we have a packed agenda with “taxing” subjects at hand. Marya Crigler, the Travis County Chief Appraiser and Bruce Elfant, the Travis County Tax Assessor will be our guests, as they are annually, to explain how to protest one tax appraisal and other tax related questions.
Since we have been inundated with CodeNEXTmaps of our neighborhoods recently, the Honorable Laura Morrison will be giving us more “pearls of wisdom” about the new draft Land Development Code and its foibles on the heels of Mayor Pro Ten Tovo’s carte blanche presentation. Jim Duncan, the former COA Director of Planning and the chair of the Citizen’s Advisory Group for CodeNEXT will have a great power point with maps and pointers for how to decipher the new draft code.
We have 2 ANC resolutions up for a vote:
1. Resolution on the Austin Police Department DNA Laboratory,  and
2. the Resolution Supporting the Removal of TXDOT Logo Signs on Austin Scenic Roadways up for a vote. Be sure to check the website for those resolutions ancweb.org
The ANC Executive Committee has been working diligently on Strategic Initiatives for 2017, and they would like to share these 4 items with the General membership on Wednesday night, too.
Additionally, we need to address and ratify with a vote the appointment of a “new” President due to David King’s departure to the Zoning and Platting Commission. Plus, there will be a “rollout” of an ANC bylaw amendment- re: Article 5, Section B. Responsibilities.
I look forward to seeing all of you on Wednesday night, April 26, 2017 at the next ANC meeting, 7 PM!
Cheers,
Mary Ingle

General Meeting – August 24th

The Austin Neighborhoods Council General Membership meeting will be this coming Wednesday, August 24th at 721 Barton Springs Road (Austin Energy Building- parking is available) from 7- 9 PM; Meet and Greet starts at 6:30 PM.

We have a great program for this month; to top the marquee is that topic that everyone is curious about- “Go Big”- the Mobility Bonds. We will have a pro/con panel discussion starring Jim Wick, Ted Siff, Mike Levy and Roger Falk with Ben Wear from the Austin American Statesman, presiding. Introductory presentations are next in the queue from the Capital Planning Office with Director Mike Trimble who will talk about bond development, and then drilling down to the specifics, Moses Garcia from the Bond Oversight Commission will hold forth.

After those “fireworks,” Assistant City Manager Bert Lumbreras and Rodney Gonzales, the new director of the Development Services Department, will update us about the role of the City’s bureaucracy. Susan Moffat, Kevin Wier, and Patricia King will talk about their experiences on the CodeNEXT Advisory Committee (note that there are 2 ANC representatives on the CAG- how cool is that!). As customary following the CAG members, Jim Duncan the Chair of the CAG will give a CodeNEXT Update.

Interspersed in the program there will present the 2 ANC resolutions up for a vote sponsored by ANC VP2, David King: ANC Resolution for a Department of Neighborhoods and ANC’s Resolution on Affordable Housing- be sure to consult with your neighborhood before the vote on these resolutions. Even though the Texas weather has been sweltering as the summer winds down, these topics will heat up the room on Wednesday night with cool heads prevailing! General Meeting – July 27th

Dear ANC Member Representatives,
It is that time again- the ANC General Membership will meet this coming Wednesday, July 27 at 7-9 PM, 721 Barton Springs Road. As usual, we have a sizzling program planned for you!  In order to promote “healing” within our community and nationwide, our first speaker, Saundra Kirk will give a talk entitled, “Embracing America’s Melting Pot.” With “Back to School” just around the corner, Paul Cruz, the Superintendent of AUstin Independent School District will give us an update on AISD. Greg Guernsey from the City’s Planning and Zoning Department will also be there with an update on CodeNEXT, especially important with so many CodeNEXT staff members who have taken jobs elsewhere.
We have the great fortune to have Bill Aleshire, well-known in the community as a Government Transparency Activist, to speak about government transparency. ANC Member,James Bilodeau, will present an internal ANC Executive Committee project/product, the ANC Scorecard that rates all of the Council Members and Mayor for their voting records (this is particularly important since the City does not have an electronic document with these votes available!). Well-known attorney, Fred Lewis, will give his perspective on the CodeNEXT Affordability Prescription Paper, and Our CAG (Citizen’s Advisory Group for CodeNEXT) member of the month will be Lauren Ice, an attorney for SOS with environmental expertise.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the July ANC General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, July 27! Our complete agenda will be posted on our website.
