Austin’s Commercial Real Estate Industry Promotes “Affordability” as a Trojan Horse to Destroy Our Single-Family Neighborhoods.
A press conference was held Monday, February 22, 2016 at Austin City Hall, to release a report showing that the Austin commercial real estate industry seeks to gut single family zoning and commercialize our neighborhoods. While they promise more affordability, they are actually making our city more expensive and less livable. This is of great interest to single-family homeowners and advocates from across Austin whose single-family neighborhoods are threatened by the real estate industry’s Trojan Horse of “affordability”. The report reveals to Austin’s single-family neighborhoods that the commercial real estate industry aims to commercialize our neighborhoods to maximize their profits under the covers of “affordability”, “density”, and CodeNEXT.

Dear Member Representative,
We will be having our monthly Austin Neighborhoods Council General Membership Meeting this coming Wednesday, September 23, 721 Barton Springs Road from 7-9 PM. Remember that Meet and Greet starts at 6:30 PM, if you would like to meet other friends and members of ANC.
Another exciting agenda for this month has been planned with Council Member Gregoria Casar as the featured City Council Member of the Month. Afterwards, our first speaker of the evening will be Jim Wick, Director of Community Engagement from the Mayor’s Office, who will speak about how to be an effective speaker with the City Council. Next will be Harry Evans, Retired Chief of Staff from the Austin Fire Department, who will give us an update on the project for national flooding alert/readiness project- a collaboration with the University of Texas. Topping the night with a conversation about Austin’s Water Resources will be given by Raymond Slade, a professional hydrologist. Pertaining to ANC Business, A slate of 2015 ANC officers will be presented to the General Membership by the ANC nominating committee. Nominations will be accepted from the floor at that time. Last, but certainly not least, Jeff Jack will detail and CodeNEXT process with an update. It should be an educational and fun evening!
So, we hope you can join us this month, and we look forward to seeing you at the upcoming meeting of the Austin Neighborhoods Council on Wednesday night, August 26, 2015.
This coming Wednesday is our August General Membership meeting (Meet and Greet starts at 6:30). I have attached the agenda – as you will notice, Kathie Tovo is not our featured City Council speaker, but Sheri Gallo is. (Kathie had a conflict with the timing of our meeting). I do hope that Ms. Gallo will take the opportunity to speak about STRs!
