Neighborhood Side Design Standards Proposal

The recently enacted Design Standards ordinance focuses on the facade of new construction on Commercial Transit Corridors and other main roadways; however, the ordinance contains no standards for the neighborhood facing sides of buildings. This lack of requirements is especially a problem for commercial development adjacent to residential, both MF and SF.  The following is a draft for Neighborhood Side Design Standards that was presented at the 5/28 ANC general meeting:

A meeting to develop the Neighborhood Side Design Standards proposal was held May 29 at City Hall.  The draft was revised at the meeting and is still considered a work in progress. Future meetings to develop further the proposed standards will be communicated through ANC Talk.

Call for Action to Manage Austin's Growth

On July 25, 2007 the Austin Neighborhoods Council approved a resolution for a Call for Action to Manage Austin’s Growth. The lack of the necessary city policies to ensure the vibrancy and the cultural vitality of Austin as we move into the future is a most serious concern among the 71 Neighborhood Association members of ANC.

A spontaneous movement to address this situation began among our members last May and has culminated to produce the Call for Action.  Dozens of neighborhood leaders have forged the document in six meetings. The resolution passed unanimously at our July 25th General Membership meeting.

ANC looks forward to working with the City Council and the rest of the Austin community in creating appropriate policies in the near future.
